War of the Worlds

War of th4 Worlds

This is definitly the best movie of the summer/ year! Went to the world premier yesterday in KL. Technically, we(Asian countries) get to watch the movie earlier that anyone else in the world. This is in part to beat those idiotic movie pirates.

I wont do a review of this movie either, but so far, comparing WotW with other summer 2005 movies such as Batman and Star Wars, I think this movie has the depth, elements and stayed true to the SF genre. While it doesn't follow exactly what was written by Wells more than 100 years back, this movie takes you on a ride not with the typically Hollywood explosives and muscle-power but with enough fear and shock elements that makes you want to watch it again and again (and still be scared everytime). You will feel like your there in the movie, running with all those refugees. And you will definitely feel the frustration and tension that was felt by Cruise's character. A must watch, thanks to the genius direction of Steven Spielberg, and his superb film making team of Janusz Kaminski (director of photography), editor Michael Kahn, composer John Williams, writer David Koepp and production designer Rick Carter (get the full list at the official site)

Now for abit of history. The War of the Worlds was written by Herbert George Wells (HG Wells) in 1898. Consider as one of the most important science fiction works of all time, this book defined the alien invasion scenario for years to come. Read the full history of the story, films and TV series along the years, and future projects at this site: War of the Worlds (the historical perspective), this is a must surf site for all SF and movie buffs.

Times End

Look everywhere and you find nothing
look inside you and you find a spirit
a spirit who crosses time and space
he who saw the creation of many worlds
as he stood outside the big bang
watching the universe forged
And finally a structure majestic

But its a creation immaterial
time moving fast into manifolds
so again we forage and search
but now we find nothing
because we have seen everything
the spirit inside us ancient
finally we dont have to search anymore
we are at times end.

Scriptures of Life, Chapter 1

Of Life

Along the trails of time,
Among flesh and blood,
Appear divine sparks of life,
And new souls unfold.

Of Living

You and I in the cold,
Impatient through the years,
All along the world muted,
There we were spotting stars.

Of Love

Sometimes in the evening,
During those warm years,
We crossed path dreaming,
Unknowingly finding tears.

Of Death

Walking along paths and valleys,
Clinging anxiously to destiny,
One part of soul willingly flies,
To the courtroom of Gods for eternity.

* Painting a general picture of the scenes of life. Chapter 1 of this series features Life, Living, Love and Death.
* The first scripture; Of Life, describes souls/ humans being born into the world, all the time through the magical touches of God. The 2nd scripture; Of Living, pictures the challenges of growing up, exploring and living while the earth stands still for the human lifetime is insignificant in cosmic terms.
* The 3rd scripture; Of Love, tells the story of falling in love and finding the soul mate in between sadness and happiness. The final chapter; Of Death, tells of the time we have to depart the world to answer the Gods.

First Contact, Remixed

On the last Thursday of the year, about half past 10 local time, they landed in the garden of the White House. The security never knew what hit them, in no time all the men in blue and black and whatever colour they’re in were rolling on the ground laughing. Apparently the aliens hit them with laughing gas. Good, now we know they have some sense of humour and wont bomb us…hemmm…senseless. Another half an hour went past, the president was hiding under his table, the secret service nowhere in sight. Thinking of the worst, he reached for his cell phone and dialled 911 with his trembling fingers. So much for him, the aliens UFO, which funnily enough is shaped like a saucer, lighted up like a Las Vegas casino, sans neon signboard. A door opened up and from it rolled down a weird looking robot with a huge plasma screen TV for its head. Words fail to describe alien technology, literally, so I’m using earth analogy. Oh, and by the way, I am the dude, who saw it all.

The president peering from …

...you

for, its during the rainy seasons
when we sit admiring
the cool breeze and wandering droplets
we realize we are admiring the beauty of loneliness
from afar, of you and me
